ANNOUNCING THE IAN BATHURST GLOBAL HEALTH TRAVEL AWARDS FOR RESEARCHERS
Silverthorne, Colorado, April 11, 2012 Keystone Symposia and Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) have announced the availability of approximately ten Ian Bathurst Global Health Travel Awards to enable attendance at Keystone Symposias January 2013 Malaria meeting in New Orleans. These Travel Awards will be given to investigators studying parasitology in disease-endemic regions. Preference will be given to early-career malaria researchers.
The Awards honor Dr. Ian Bathurst, a highly respected and beloved malaria researcher who sadly passed away in June 2011. Dr. Bathurst, who was Director of Drug Discovery at MMV, participated in four Keystone Symposia malaria conferences and valued the opportunities these provided to enhance knowledge, innovation and collaboration in the field.
MMV and the Bathurst family set up a Sponsorship Program in Dr. Bathursts memory. Donations made to the program were presented to Keystone Symposia to support the Global Health Travel Awards.
Ian was an invaluable member of MMV and a much respected mentor to the discovery team, said Tim Wells, Chief Scientific Officer, MMV. He would be delighted to know that young scientists researching malaria and neglected diseases were receiving support to attend the Keystone Symposia in his name.
Added Christopher Atwood, Keystone Symposias Director of Development, We sincerely appreciate the gift of these Awards, which will enable more deserving investigators to participate in our upcoming Malaria conference.
The Awards cover the costs of attending the conference, including meeting registration, lodging, airfare and ground transportation. A brief application is required and must be submitted by August 10, 2012. Please click here for more information on eligibility criteria and to apply.
